Dear Members,
The Institute of Public Administration Australia WA Division (IPAA WA) is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2022 Council Election.
Our Council plays a vital role in the Governance and Strategic Planning of IPAA WA.
At a strategic level, this includes setting the strategies, goals, action plans, policies, and performance targets for IPAA WA, as well as monitoring the performance of these strategies and plans. Our Council also allocates the resources including the budget, staff, systems, and tools to achieve IPAA WA’s strategic objectives.
In a governance capacity, Council ensure IPAA WA’s compliance with statutory, legal, and accounting requirements. We also assure adequate risk management and accountability systems are in place for IPAA WA, and at an internal level, our Council set the tone for organisational behaviour (administered through the Code of Conduct).
This is a broad summary of the key functions of the our Council, and I encourage you to view the Council fact sheet and Governance Charter for a detailed look at Council’s responsibilities to you and your fellow members of IPAA WA.
Joining our Council offers you an even greater opportunity to contribute your expertise and experience to the development and success of IPAA WA. Each year a number of positions on our Council are declared vacant, and Personal Members are invited to nominate for them. This system ensures the continuity of operations, allows for fresh ideas, and helps drive the strategic direction of the Institute.
As the Constitution changed earlier this year (following the June Special General Meeting), the Council elections will be different for 2022. The below positions will be declared vacant and up for re-election:
- Vice President (2 Positions)
- Secretary (1 Position)
- Council Member (Up to 7 Positions)
Given the special circumstances this year, please refer to previous correspondence and the IPAA WA Constitution for details on how these positions are allocated into groups.

The closing date for nominations is 5:00PM, Tuesday 13 September 2022.
A confirmation of your nomination will be emailed to you by this date, but if you do not receive a confirmation email from us by the closing time and date, please contact us before 5:00pm, Wednesday 14 September 2022.
Should there be more nominations than available positions a vote will be held at the Annual General Meeting on the 20th of October 2022, as per the rules of the Association.
