The 2021 IPAA WA Public Sector Young Professional Conference provided a platform to discuss the important issues affecting young professionals or those who are new to their journey in the public sector.

The conference was developed by young professionals in the public sector for the young professionals of the public sector.

This year’s conference engaged with an exciting line-up of speakers. Young professionals gained insight into capitalising on opportunity and strategies for developing their public sector careers. The conference drew on a diverse range of perspectives that that provided insight into four central themes of the day.

Bunbury Regional Hub

Fresh ideas, fresh food, a fresh new network – South West Young Professionals kicked off 2021 with an invigorating gathering of like-minded career focused regional young professionals’ at the first ever regional YP Conference hub, this year held in Bunbury. The hub hosted a panel session (beamed back to the Perth hub).

Aside from the sessions hosted onsite, the Perth sessions were live-streamed to the regional hub. YPs had the opportunity to view the entire conference on a big screen, while networking with their regional colleagues. They were also be able to submit questions and comments electronically anytime during the conference.

Keynote Speaker

Lanie Chopping
Commissioner for Consumer Protection

Lanie Chopping is the Commissioner for Consumer Protection and A/Executive Director, Consumer Protection (Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety), undertaking a range of statutory roles and responsibilities and providing leadership to the Consumer Protection Division.

Prior to this role, Lanie was the head of the Priorities Implementation Unit with the Department of the Premier and Cabinet in Western Australia.

A social worker by profession, Lanie first joined Consumer Protection in 2011.  Prior to joining Consumer Protection, she worked with the Economic Regulation Authority, having previously worked with the West Australian Council of Social Service, and in community legal centres, including in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Lanie is also a Commissioner of the Legal Aid Commission.

Lanie was the inaugural Convenor of the National Regulators Community of Practice Western Australian Chapter.

Lanie is a Leadership WA alumni from 2007 and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

With her history of citizen-focused roles, Lanie is well-placed to speak about the direct impact of our work as public servants on the people of Western Australia.
