Women In Leadership

Sharing Stories of Success

Events - 6 Dec 2011

The Women in Leadership seminar series continues to inspire diversity and change in women in leadership roles. With much of the audience dominated by women, the high caliber speakers provided an insight into their own career journeys and lessons learn along the way.

Key advice from presenters included:

  • Be true to who you are as a person
  • Be challenged to take risks and be open to new opportunities
  • Don’t risk becoming unhappy, make positive decisions
  • Maintain professionalism and integrity
  • Be your own advocate and back it up with competency
  • Establish your own ‘panel of advisors’ with people you trust
  • Find time for yourself
  • Stay mentally and physically healthy

The advice from speakers was well received by the audience. Melissa Parke MP commented “It’s about doing the best in the place and the moment you are in. How you work is just as important as an educator- be a facilitator not a blocker.” Mrs Tonya McCusker also encouraged women to join boards “I encourage you all to give up some of your time for a board, whether a P & C committee or an organisation…it is very important to give back.”
