IPAA WA Facilitator Wins Major Journalism Award

The WA Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA WA) is pleased to announce that one of its long-time facilitators, Tony Malkovic, has won one of the State’s major journalism awards, the 2013 Clarion Award.

The award, for the most outstanding contribution to journalism in WA, was presented at the WA Media Awards held on the weekend by the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA).

Tony is a freelance journalist and facilitator/MC with considerable public sector experience who conducts several writing and communications workshops for IPAA.

He has been a journalist for more than 30 years working in newspapers, online and for ABC TV news and current affairs. As well as working with the Institute, he runs his own consultancy, Hyde Park Media, which specialises in freelance journalism and corporate communications.

“One of the things I try to do in all my IPAA WA workshops is pass on practical tips to help people write more clearly and concisely, and communicate more effectively – skills that are very similar to the journalistic skills I have developed over the past three decades,” he said.

The Clarion Award acknowledged Tony’s efforts over several years, particularly his contributions in helping establish information sessions and skills workshops for freelance journalists.

IPAA WA Training Manager, Mr Bevan Long, congratulated Tony on the award, “Tony reliably provides our delegates with an exceptional learning experience and is an example of the high quality facilitators engaged in our training program.”

As well as conducting several writing workshops for IPAA WA, Tony has facilitated IPAA’s successful Annual Report writing workshop since its inception six years ago.
