IPAA WA Welcomes Governor as Patron

Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AO, Governor of Western Australia, has accepted Patronage of the Institute of Public Administration Australia WA (IPAA WA).

Her Excellency officially opened the IPAA 2014 International Conference at Government House on 28 October 2014 in her first official role as IPAA WA Patron.

In her speech welcoming distinguished guests, Mrs Sanderson AO commented on the outstanding work of public sector administrators and the challenges faced by the sector.

“I have personally worked with some outstanding public sector administrators who committed to the public sector because they wanted to bring benefit to the State or nation.”

“The whole aspect of good governance, including continued improvement and innovation with a focus on outcomes, is one which I have a personal commitment to. I believe that good governance improves outcomes, and have seen evidence of that.”

“The ageing and growing Western Australian population will require the sector to match the changing physical and social infrastructure needs of the community… IPAA WA has an important role in enabling further advancement of the public sector in meeting some of these upcoming challenges.”

IPAA WA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gavin Lewis, said he was delighted to receive confirmation of the Governors support.

“The Institute has had long-standing support of Western Australian Governors and I welcome Her Excellency as Patron and share her concern in meeting some of the challenges faced by the public service,” Mr Lewis said.

Her Excellency is the first female to become Western Australia’s Governor and is a Fellow of IPAA WA.
