Transport Deputy DG Appointed as Institute President

Sue McCarrey has this week been named Western Australia Institute of Public Administration Council President.

Ms McCarrey Deputy Director General, Department of Transport has worked within the Transport sector for more than nine years, previously as Executive Director for Safety and Strategy at the Public Transport Authority.

“I am very proud to have the opportunity to take on this leadership role in an organisation that has a long and proud history,” Ms McCarrey said.

"The institute provides fantastic support for those working in the public sector
and the not-for-profit sector, to develop the skills, knowledge, confidence and contacts to help them do their best and enjoy the work they do."

Ms McCarrey first joined the Institute’s Council in 2004 and held the position of Vice President since 2009. She commenced work for the public sector as a primary school teacher in Karratha and spent time as a school principal and in policy and strategic planning at the Department of Education.

She completed a Master of Education in 1994 and a Law Degree in 2003 and was admitted as a Practicing Solicitor in 2005. In her current role for the Department for Transport she is responsible for working with Government and industry to set the strategic direction for transport in Western Australia.

The Institute’s Chief Executive Officer Alison Petrie commented “Ms McCarrey’s experience in education, law and the public sector will help to aid the growth of the Institute and provide valuable insight and direction into public administration and practice.”
