Overview

LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual) Diversity and Inclusion training aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills so individuals and teams can work more inclusively with LGBTIQA+ community members and co-workers.

Despite the great leaps Australia has made in the last 50 years around inclusion and diversity, LGBTIQA+ people still report high levels of discrimination, exclusion and poorer mental health outcomes compared to the general population.

Research shows that workplaces aspire to be inclusive of LGBTIQA+ diversity but have not had an opportunity to learn about diversity in a respectful and educational way. In line with the Workforce Diversification and Inclusion Strategy for WA Public Sector Employment 2020-2025, this training aims to upskill public sector staff to work inclusively with LGBTIQA+ people.

The training is activity-based, with small group discussions, questions, and videos of LGBTIQA+ people and their experiences, allowing participants to learn in an interactive and relaxed manner. Physical resources will be provided on the day, such as a glossary of terminology, key strategies for inclusive practices and relevant research. Digital copies will also be made available after the training
