Judges Comments - The winner of this award departed markedly from normal approaches to reporting on performance. Not satisfied with demonstrating compliance with Public Sector Commission annual reporting guidelines, this agency benchmarked its reporting practices against the international Global Reporting Framework.
This is clearly a bold step forward in public accountability in the WA public sector.

Judges Comments - The Department of Education Services 2009 Annual Report combined the relevant attributes of transparency, logical layout which facilitated ease of comprehension, appropriate and effective use of charts/tables to convey relevant messages effectively and efficiently, as well as meeting the challenge of providing full disclosure in a concise manner. This was evident throughout the Annual Report from a good punchy Executive Summary, use of two colour schemes, tables/charts and borders to draw ones eye to the key issues/messages and the use of plain English to convey the messages while at the same time ensuring all required disclosures were met.
Judges Comments: The Fremantle Port Authority’s report provides an impressive overview of activities to raise awareness of recordkeeping throughout the organization. The Fremantle Port Authority has described ongoing initiatives to review and improve records management processes, as well as provide training and guidance to ensure both new and existing employees understand their recordkeeping responsibilities. In implementing these outstanding initiatives, the Fremantle Port Authority has demonstrated a solid commitment to good business practices through best practice recordkeeping.
Commendation: Disability Services Commission
The State Records Commission is keen to bestow a high commendation to the Disability Services Commission for its reporting on initiatives to ensure systems and practices meet recordkeeping related objectives, and that established training and support mechanisms improve recordkeeping awareness across the entire organization of some 1, 585 staff.
Judges Comments - Displayed a high level of transparency and disclosure in safety and injury management performance and demonstrated a risk aware safety culture.
Judges Comments - The winner of the 2009 CFO of the Year Award demonstrated excellence in innovation, risk management and leadership. This successful nominee recently implemented a number of changes within their agency that were considered best practice by their peers and other related CFO’s. This led to the CFO providing guidance and support in these areas to other similar agencies. This strong leader provided several examples of commitment to continually streamlining and re-engineering processes to improve efficiencies, customer service and job satisfaction across all areas of responsibility.
