Executive Briefing Series

Proudly supported by EY

This exclusive series brings together CEOs and senior executives from across the public and community services sectors for thoughtful discussion, shared insights and engagement with peers.

The briefings introduce new thinking, research and perspectives from beyond the WA public sector, exploring their relevance and bringing the discussion back to the Western Australian context.

Upcoming session

16 December 2026 | Building a Future-Ready Public Service

Drawing on EY’s global Future-Fit Workforce Study and emerging insights, this Executive Briefing will explore how the Western Australian public service can prepare for the changing environment ahead.

The discussion will consider the gap between confidence in government’s ability to deliver today and its readiness to deliver tomorrow, and how technological advances, AI, changing workforce expectations and societal shifts are reshaping the demands placed on government.

Speakers

  • Dr Juliet Andrews, Partner, People Consulting, EY Australia, will explore what it means to build a future-ready public service, looking beyond workforce capability to the operating models, leadership approaches and organisational structures needed to respond to emerging challenges and deliver on government priorities.
  • Michael Carey, Director General, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, will bring a whole-of-government perspective, considering the environment in which the WA public sector will need to operate in the years ahead and the changing expectations placed on government. His contribution will explore what these shifts mean for how agencies lead, organise and deliver, and what the public sector will need to look like and be capable of to continue delivering effectively against the Government’s priorities.

Together, these perspectives will provide the foundation for discussion with CEOs and senior leaders about what becoming future-ready means in practice for their agencies and the WA public sector as a whole, including the practical steps needed to strengthen the sector’s capacity to adapt, deliver effectively and continue creating public value for the Western Australian community.
