Markers of progress are all around, notably that the state public service has achieved the 50% milestone of women in CEO roles, but more remains to be done. Local government and community sector organisations across this state have milestones to achieve alongside the state public sector.

Several reports identify that there is an urgent need to build a pipeline of talent by increasing the representation of women in the levels of leadership that lead to the pinnacle. Achieving this objective is critical to the future success of all tiers of the public service and community sector organisations.

For over ten years this conference has provided fresh inspiration and timely insights for thousands of dynamic and motivated women who, seeking senior leadership or not, are committed to driving the changes necessary for a gender balanced leadership future. Male allies have been few in number but those who have attended are ahead of the game in ensuring their effectiveness and relevance as the working world evolves.

In 2023 the conference program featured lively and engaging keynotes, leading researchers, and a line-up of panellists engaged specifically to reflect and provide insights into the many stages of a leadership journey.

This conference was particularly suited to delegates from local, state and commonwealth public service and the community sector who are:

  • Existing leaders with aspiration to executive leadership
  • New professionals seeking unparalleled insights into the leadership journey
  • Allies wanting to increase their understanding and capacity to support change
  • Executive leaders wishing to mentor a group from their team or organisation.

Topics that were covered at the conference included:

  • Gaining and sustaining a reputation for leadership
  • Increasing the size of the leadership cohort
  • Understanding and using leadership frameworks

The inimitable and globally respected Molly Harris-Olson, former CEO of Fairtrade Australia and New Zealand, delivered this year’s keynote speaker, and was joined by a stellar line-up of speakers and panellists throughout the day.
