The Public Sector Commission and IPAA WA are proud supporters of International Women’s Day 2021 and its important goals of celebrating women’s achievement, raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality.
In the lead up to IWD 2021, we are co-hosting this online event for the public sector, featuring two inspiring women who have overcome adversity and bias to be outstanding leaders in their respective fields.

Public Sector Commissioner
Sharyn O’Neill was appointed as Public Sector Commissioner in July 2018 following 12 years as Director General of the Department of Education. She is the first woman to undertake the role.

A senior Noongar woman, Colleen has worked for more than 30 years to address a wide range of complex issues affecting the wellbeing of minority groups across the nation, particularly women and children.

Syan Dougherty started her career writing for Fashion Voyeur magazine, producing ABC radio and working as a video journalist for GWN7 news. She joined Channel 7’s Today Tonight in 2014, where she reports on a wide range of local, national and international stories.
